Inquiry

Inquiry Module 3

Term 3 Week 4
Inquiry Module 3 has come to an end. By using our GROW inquiry model and putting in a lot of focus and hard work, we have presented our findings about different communication technologies. See the photos of our awesome display boards, inquiry video and our group reflections.

What do you think they did well?
What could they do better next time?

 Well done to the Maniacs!

Om: It was fun working in a group because I was working with my friends and they were funny.
Everything went well because we all helped each other. It was challenging because I didn’t know what we were doing. I learned a lot about jet planes like how they fly and how they affect the environment.
Gavin A: I love working in a group and it was my first time working in a group. I loved working in a group because got to research, write and type on the computer. We worked well in a group having a lot of ideas and we worked until the end. It was very challenging because I have never worked in a group/ never typed and wrote about technology and I never done inquiry. I learned about technology and how they help society and communication plus the environment (It was a lot of fun).
Heet: Working with a group was fun but it was hard because other group members had different ideas.
Publishing and how technology has developed went quite well but the other things were quite hard because we had slow typers. Sorting out who was doing what and how jet planes affect the environment and society was difficult because group members weren’t listening to me (I was the group leader).I learnt that there is a 2% whole in the ozone layer made by jet planes.
Dev: (DB): Working in a group was fun because we had one very fun and friendly leader. The publishing worked well because it was easy and fun too. The challenging part was to write about the future because you need to think more about our topic. I’ve learnt all sorts of things about jet planes.
Rudra: It was interesting working in a group. It was interesting because your buddy would help you if you get confused. Publishing was well because we can put all the information together so I could know what group can do. Researching was a challenge because if I searched jet planes it came up with jet engines. I learnt how jet planes could help you communicate.

Well done to the Jet Planes!

Group Reflection on Inquiry

Reda: Working in a group was really hard because mostly everyone didn’t listen to us. The thing that worked well was how everyone worked in a team. The challenging thing was how we had to write lots of information. I learnt how jet planes can go so faster than I thought.
Aline: Working in the Jet Planes was hard because I don’t really communicate well with most of the people in my group. It worked well because each one of us had good ideas. It was really challenging because I didn’t know what to write sometimes. I learnt a lot about jet planes.
Jo:Working in a group was really difficult because the other members had different ideas than I did. I had to follow their ideas. It worked well because I had lots of ideas and the others did too, so we shared them. We caught up to the other groups too. It was challenging because we needed help to get organised plenty of times and I had to edit all the work that the other members did. I have learnt that we should always work together as a team so we could finish all the work in time, instead of arguing. Working in a group is plenty of fun but we have to dis-agree with each other’s ideas too.
Mason: Working in a group is quite difficult because we all had different ideas. The thing that worked well was that most of the time we worked together well and we worked hard to get our assignment completed. It was hard working together because some people were not listening. I learnt that it was very hard to work in a group and I learnt how fast jet planes go.
Devonta: It was so hard working in a group because I didn’t know my group very well.
We had good team work because we worked together. We had to do lots to complete our assignment. I learnt that jet planes could be very dangerous.

Well done to the Asteroids!

Tyrone: It was difficult to find all the information about satellites .The 21st century was the hardest. The worst part was catching up to the other groups. The best part was finishing it.
Caitlin: Working in a group was fun because my group helped me and it was AWESOME. Finding information went very well because it wasn’t too hard to find the information. The challenge was that we didn’t know how to explain our writing perfectly, it was a tricky challenge. I learnt that there is not only one satellite in space, there is 8,000 satellites. How would one satellite get to another place so quickly.
Ilham: It was great because we worked together. I loved publishing because of the typing. Group meetings were hard because I was confused. I’ve learnt that the environment is special because of plants.

Gavin: Working in a group was hard, I found it hard because it was hard to research. Researching went well in the end, because we found lots of information. The challenge was that I missed lots of school. I learnt that satellites cost lots of money.

Well done Technological Researchers!

(Sybil was away but was an awesome group member too!)

Group Reflection Technological Researchers

Dhanvi:  Working in a group was amazing because I got to do the research. Some things that worked well was when I got to learn new stuff about phones. The challenge was when I had to finish the society and the environment topic in an hour. I learnt that phones are good but they can have negative effects on the society and environment.

Michelle: Working in a group was good because our group was super organised because there was a good leader. Something that worked well was the writing of the past, present and future about cell phones because everybody was being fair. The challenge was when we needed to research how cell phones effect on the environment and society because we will need to find terrific websites to tell us information. I learnt cell phones can have negative effects on the environment and society.

Teba: Working on a group is hard because sometimes the leaders choose other people instead of me.
Our group worked well because we all had a turns writing a sentence on the word document. Our group didn’t let me type on the computer because the people in our group went first and that was challenging.
I learnt to be patient to type on the computer and how to work together as a team.

Micah: Working in a team is a bit hard without the other leader helping organise the group but it went really well. What worked well is that we finished our inquiry because we worked together as a team.
The challenge was we had to finish our inquiry before the day we present our boards. I learnt if we work in a group we finish our work in a group together.

Well done Technology Gold !!

Technology Gold
Group Reflection on Inquiry

Ben: Working in Technology Gold was hard and easy because someone wanted to do something but they didn’t agree on it. It was good because we worked as a team and never gave up.
The thing that worked between us was splitting up and doing the right topic (we were focused on their work and really wanted to get it done).
The thing that was a challenge was trying to work out who was doing what (because John and I were the team leaders).
The things I learnt was that Ray Tomlinson invented electronic mail (e-mail).
John: Working in Technology Gold was great, because we worked together as a team to get our topic finished. Fortunately we managed to get it finished on time.
What worked well was that we found out information and used it to complete our topic.
A challenge for our group was getting our topic finished.
I learned that computers may have some positive and negative effects on people, also being a group leader can sometimes be hard to organise our group.
Deasy: It was fun and interesting working together because we got along with each other.
We worked well with each other because we didn’t really fight with each other.
It was kind of a challenge for the society and environment because I had to work by myself.
I learnt about the internet because our topic was the internet and we had a lot of information from different websites.
Breanna:
It was a bit challenging because our group the people kept on saying “no were  doing this!”
The thing that worked well was when how we each got a turn in typing our information about the internet.
The challenge was when a person in our group didn’t get a chance for choosing a picture he wanted and Usaia wanted to do computer pictures but John wanted to do pictures of websites.
I learnt a lot of information from my inquiry because we had tons of information that we got from researching.
Usaia:
Working in a group was really fun because we did a lot of things and we helped each other.
What worked well was that we got organised and I liked my job.
What was a challenge was working on our things and writing all the information down.
I learnt a lot of things like how computers help us and how computers have changed.

Term 3 Week 2

Our group student led research has began!

Here are our groups.

Term 2 Week 6

We have been learning about how technological change has allowed us to communicate in different ways.

We created a timeline from 1800 - 2013 and noted down significant technological changes in this period.

We couldn't believe that the first mechanical clock was invented in 724!
Dev thought it must have been a mistake. We noticed that there has been some serious technological change in the last 40 years with the creation of the internet amongst other things.

Term 2 Week 5

We have been unpacking the scenario.

Here are some interesting videos that have sparked our interest. We can not believe that classrooms used to be like that in 1940!

Inquiry Module 2

We investigated how to make sure that everyone is included at GPS and everyone is treated equally and fairly. We surveyed our parents and found out that they did not use the community room. We decided to make posters and invite our for a shared lunch in the community room.

Inclusiveness is about being a good friend...

Here are some things that a good friend does...

Having good friends is really important to your happiness.

Listen. Listening is so important not to underestimate, but it can be hard to do. The best way to listen is to try and understand the situation from your friends’ point of view. If you aim to do this, you’ll naturally find yourself beginning to ask the right sort of questions and they will appreciate having someone who really cares about how they feel and what they’re going through. You don’t have to have all the answers, and you shouldn’t assume your friend wants advice – they might just want to talk so that they can work out what they’re going to do themselves.
Ask them what they need. If you’re worried about someone and you want to be there for them, just ask them what they need- that way you know what they find helpful during tough times, and you can be there in a way that’s most useful to them.
Get physical. Smiles and hugs are a great way to show friends that they’re not alone, that you’re there for them, and that they are important.
Keep in touch. Even if you guys aren’t nearby each other, making an effort to keep in touch through facebook, emails, texts and calls will show your friend you are there for them.
Tell them how you feel. You don’t have to make a big deal of it all the time but sometimes there are moments where letting someone know that they’re important to you through something you say, can make a big difference to how someone is feeling.

Inquiry Module 3 Starts week 5... Stay tuned for more information..

  9. The most important thing that I like about the boards and groups was that they learnt to work in a group and learnt how to research inclusively. They could have done better by taking more time and have a bit more information. Over all I like their finished projects.
